A hobby, born out of financial necessity, becomes an obsession. Sounds like a tagline to a cheesy novel... or a really bad movie. But it pretty much sums up how Comfortably Grande came to be. I simply couldn’t afford to replace the furniture I’ve lived with for too many years, (I don’t know about you, but I am COMPLETELY over light oak) so I decided to affect my own change and paint my way to new décor. Throw in some inherited mid-20th century furniture, an affinity for 2nd-hand furniture shops, and the love of a challenge... and an avocation was born! I love the wonderful word of vintage - beyond providing a tangible link to our own heritage, these unique pieces of history hold the secrets and stories of bygone conversations, obsolete customs and etiquette, and are tangible reminders of the extravagances and hardships of another era. They are generally very well made - by hand - constructed by artisans who prided themselves in creating quality, lasting pieces. Think about it… if it has lasted this long it will likely also withstand the daily grind of today’s life... right? So now I turn these older, forgotten relics of the past into something new and different from anything else. I find it both exciting and gratifying, and there is nothing I like more than sharing my vision with other people!
